Science unravels truths about the physical world and the nature by the use of scientific methods. It relies upon valuable evidences derived from gathering observations and conducting experiments. To the contrary, the adversarial system is based upon arguments from conflicting parties having difference in their opinion and attitude.
The scientific method involves methodical observations, creating hypothesis and postulates, careful calculations, measurements, multiple testing and drawing scientific conclusions from experimentation. However, the adversarial system is different as it is based upon arguments and disputes between two conflicting parties in front of an unbiased person or a group of individuals. There is no shortage of heated discussions and arguments in science, however the disagreement between the scientists are settled down by appropriate experiments and conclusions.
The entire process of conducting experiments and then drawing conclusions maybe time-consuming, but if the data is reliable and can be reproduced, the scientific community can reach unanimity. In the adversarial system, the jury strives for the truth based upon the strength of the arguments of both the opponents and hence come to a final decision. The scientific evidences can either prove or disprove the argument and hence forms only a part of the entire process.
As far as the social issues are concerned, the adversarial systems are most appropriate in such situations. An individual might have been convicted of thievery, but the situations which made him do so are subject to careful considerations. Nevertheless, science as a subject is exclusive to this social element. Science is objective and thus independent of any emotions and biases. The scientific method is not appropriate for dealing with individuals. However, to get a better understanding of the life, universe and the surrounding world, the scientific method is an ideal method.
